21 Guns- by Green Day

So...a good friend of mine gave me the idea of this song. I looked through the lyrics a few times and then over again. The meaning of this song? Well, truthfully a lot of people could look at it and think, "Oh, he's talking about this girl he really loves." or "He's talking about himself in third person."

Truthfully, I haven't been able to find the meaning behind these lyrics. I felt that I have failed but i really can't. So what I'm going to do is take the song and put it into what I think Green Day is trying to get through.

In the beginning of this song he starts off with asking questions directed to a certain someone. These questions are very deep though and makes you think right from the beginning that its not gonna be the happiest song. Green Day seems to like to draw a detailed picture in your mind, by giving you these bigger words in your head. Its almost as if they are painting a picture.

In the chorus of this song the meaning and the message comes through. He's talking about basically surrendering almost from this battle that you've been fighting all your life. You can almost think of it as a drug or some type of nagging thats going on in ones body that has been taking over your life.

I'm sorry that I don't have much more to say about this song since i don't know it very well...
Next time you go through the sort of pain where everything seems to just be falling all around you write a song or just some type of lyrics to get the words you've wanted to say out of your mouth...

Love,
Natalie

Lyrics:

Do you know what's worth fighting for?
When it's not worth dying for?
Does it take your breath away
And you feel yourself suffocating?

Does the pain weigh out the pride?
And you look for a place to hide?
Did someone break your heart inside?
You're in ruins

One, 21 guns
Lay down your arms, give up the fight
One, 21 guns
Throw up your arms into the sky, you and I

When you're at the end of the road
And you lost all sense of control
And your thoughts have taken their toll
When your mind breaks the spirit of your soul

Your faith walks on broken glass
And the hangover doesn't pass
Nothing's ever built to last
You're in ruins

One, 21 guns
Lay down your arms, give up the fight
One, 21 guns
Throw up your arms into the sky, you and I

Did you try to live on your own
When you burned down the house and home?
Did you stand too close to the fire
Like a liar looking for forgiveness from a stone?

When it's time to live and let die
And you can't get another try
Something inside this heart has died
You're in ruins

One, 21 guns
Lay down your arms, give up the fight
One, 21 guns
Throw up your arms into the sky

One, 21 guns
Lay down your arms, give up the fight
One, 21 guns
Throw up your arms into the sky, you and I
